Cody Newton Named 2013 NJCAA 1st-Team All-American for DIII Men's Soccer!

Congratulations to Century College student/athlete Cody Newton (freshman, midfielder, Cottage Grove, MN), who was been named to the 2013 NJCAA 1st Team All-American for DIII Men's Soccer!

Century College Men’s Soccer Team Ends 2013 Season on High Note

The Century College men’s soccer team ended their 2013 season on a high note. The team

advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament, held in Herkimer, New York for the first time in

program history.

Number 7 Century College faced off with an experienced, number 2 Montgomery College (MD)

team in their quarterfinal match. Montgomery College’s experience showed during the match

as they put a young Century team on their heels. Montgomery’s high powered attack was just

too much for the Century squad and they ended up winning 4-0.

The following day Century faced Camden County College (NJ). Century came out in this match and dominated. The match went to a penalty-kick shootout. Freshman Goalkeeper, Christian

Espitia, was able to make one huge save in the shootout, while Camden hit the post twice.

Freshman Defender, Ryan Flynn, eventually scored the match-winning penalty-kick, to give

Century their first victory at the tournament.

For Zach Wilmes’ efforts during the National Tournament, he was awarded by being named to

the 2013 NJCAA National All-Tournament team.

In the final polls of the 2013 NJCAA Men’s Soccer season, Century College is ranked #6 in the

nation.

Century College baseball players sign with NCAA DI,II Colleges

The 2013-14 Century College baseball program had 3 players sign National Letters of Intent to continue their career at NCAA Division I and II programs during the fall NCAA signing period.

Sophomores Eldon Evans (South Dakota State University), Dakota Belter (Minnesota State-Mankato), and Colton Vien (Augustana College) signed national letters of intent to continue their baseball careers and are receiving baseball scholarships.  All 3 players were major contributors to the Wood Ducks' team as they finished as NJCAA National Runner-Up in 2013.

Evans is a RHP from Montevideo HS (MN) and was 7-2 with 1.57 ERA as a freshman in 2013.  In 49 innings, Evans struck out 47 and walked only 15.

Vien was named to the NJCAA All Region Team in 2013 after finishing with a 9-3 record and a 2.43 ERA as a freshman.  He led the pitching staff with 74 innings pitched, striking out 44 and walking 20.  Vien is also from Montevideo HS (MN).

Belter was one of the nation’s top closers in 2013, leading the nation in saves with 12.  In 25 innings pitched, Belter allowed only 1 earned run (0.28 ERA) while striking out 28 and walking only 3.  Belter is from Somerset HS (WI).

“We are very excited for these players to have the opportunity to move on the next level and play for some great programs,” stated Head Coach Dwight Kotila.  “They came to Century College with the goal of moving on to a top-level university, and through their hard work, their goal was reached.  “SDSU, MN State-Mankato, and Augustana are getting some great players.”

After just 3 years of existence, the Century College baseball program has now had over 20 players continue their careers at 4-year colleges.

Century Men's Soccer Team Wins NJCAA Region XIII District C Tournament!

It was a goal by Ryan Flynn in the 90th minute of the District C Championship game against Joliet JC on Saturday, Nov. 2, that is sending Century Men's Soccer team to the NJCAA National Tournament in Herkimer, NY!  Congratulations, Team!!!

Our team will take on Montgomery College (MD) at 3 pm (CST) on Thursday, Nov. 14. 

The entire Century Community is elated for the team and our coach!

VENUE CHANGE - Nov. 2 Men's Soccer Game at Park High School in Cottage Grove!

Please note the change of venue for our Men's Soccer District C Championship game on Saturday, November 2.  Game time is still 12 pm, but the venue has changed to the Park High School soccer fields (not Mahtomedi High School).

Century College plays host to Joliet College in the NJCAA District C Championship match on Saturday, November 2, 12 pm, at Mahtomedi High School.

The winner will advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Herkimer, NY, November 14-17.

Wilmes, Villani, Moo & Newton Named to 2013 NJCAA Region XIII All-Region Team!

Century College Men's Soccer Team Wins NJCAA Region XIII Soccer Tournament

Celebrations are in order today!  Century's men’s soccer team won the Region XIII soccer tournament yesterday, defeating Anoka –Ramsey 2-0.  Coach David Palmer was also named NJCAA Region Coach of the Year!

Our team  hosts the District Championship on Saturday, November 2, at 12 pm, at Park Center High School soccer field.   Their opponent is yet to be determined, but they will play the winner of Region 4 (Illinois). 

The winner of the District Championship game will advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Herkimer, New York Nov 14-17.

Congratulations to Coach Palmer and the team! Way to go, Wood Ducks!

 

 

Wilmes on Verge of Breaking Century's Single Season Goal Scoring Record!

Zach Wilmes (Freshman • Forward • Gottage Grove, MN) tied the Century College single-season goal scoring record last weekend (Oct 11-13).  Wilmes scored 4 goals on the weekend, bringing his total tally to 21 goals on the season. The record has been held by Ibou Wone (Forward • Dakar, Senegal) since 2009.  Congratulations, Zach!

Jared Dettman Enjoying Success in Professional Baseball

Former Century College baseball All-American Jared Dettman has had a very successful start to his professional baseball career with the Danville Braves, the top rookie league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.   

Dettman, an LHP who was a 17th round draft pick in 2013, is 1-4, , but has an ERA of only 2.61. You can follow his career with the Danville Braves here.

Century Men's soccer kicks off the regular season with two wins!

The Century men's soccer team traveled down to Ottumwa, IA for the Indian Hills C.C. Kickoff Tournament over the weekend. Century took on the hosts, Indian Hills C.C., on Friday and walked away with a convincing 4-0 win.

On Saturday, Century played in a tightly fought contest against Wentworth College (MO). Century Baseball Team Tryouts - August 27-28

If you're interested in trying out for Century's baseball team, join us for a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, Aug, 27, 3:30 pm, in W3520.

Tryouts will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28, 3:30 pm on Century's baseball field.  

All players must meet the following criteria:

1) Be enrolled full time at Century

2) Have a current sports physical on file

3) Have medical insurance info on file

Sophomore LHP Jared Dettman (Somerset, WI) was drafted in the 17th round by the Atlanta Braves

Century College sophomore LHP Jared Dettman (Somerset, WI) was drafted in the 17th round by the Atlanta Braves in this past weekend's Major League Draft.  Jared was named NJCAA 3rd Team All American, and helped guide the Wood Ducks to a national runner up finish at the 2013 NJCAA III World Series. He was also drafted out of high school in 2011 by the Minnesota Twins.  He has accepted a baseball scholarship to attend North Dakota State University if he doesn't sign with the Braves.

"Jared was one of the top left handed pitchers in the nation this past year, and I couldn't be more happy for him," stated Century College Head Baseball Coach Dwight Kotila. "The Braves believe Jared has a chance to develop into a top pitching prospect in their organization, and I couldn't agree more.  A lot of credit for Jared's development goes to our pitching coach, Randy Briesacher, who is one of the best pitching coaches I have been around."

Dettman becomes the 4th player who played for Coach Kotila in his coaching career to be drafted, and the first player in the young history of Century College to be drafted.

Century's Men's Baseball Team 2013 Season

The Century College baseball team, in just its 3rd year as a program, completed a very successful 2013 season with a 42-13 record, and reached the NJCAA DIII World Series, where they finished as National Runner-Up, losing in the national championship game to Gloucester (NJ). The team also finished the season as #2 ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association's final DIII National Poll.

The 2013 squad had 7 players who moved on to NCAA DI, II, III and NAIA universities to continue their baseball careers.  In 3 years as a collegiate baseball program, Century has already placed 17 players at various NCAA and NAIA colleges and universities.

Individual Player Awards

The NJCAA released its post season award winners on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, and several Century baseball players were honored:

• Zach Horn (C – Bloomington, MN) was named NJCAA 1^st Team All American.  Horn was also named to the NJCAA All Region XIII team.
• Jared Dettman (LHP – Somerset, WI) was named NJCAA 3^rd Team All American.  Dettman was also named to the NJCAA All Region XIII Team.
• Colton Vien (RHP – Montevideo, MN) was named to the NJCAA All Region XIII Team.

Also, the following players were named to the NJCAA World Series team: 

•  Zach Nielsen (Marion, IA)
• Jordan Stroh (Maple Grove, MN)
•  Jace Otto (Blaine, MN)

Century finished as National Runner-up at the 2013 NJCAA DIII World Series.

During the past 3 years, the team has had 5 players named NJCAA All Americans, and 7 players named NJCAA All Region XIII players.  In addition, the team has had members selected to play in the Northwoods League, one of the premiere summer college baseball leagues in the country.

This summer, sophomore pitcher Jared Dettman (Somerset, WI) will be pitching for the Eau Claire (WI) Express in the Northwoods League.

Century Men's Baseball Team Advances to the NJCAA World Series!

The Century College baseball team won the Region XIII baseball tournament this past weekend, and will now advance to the NJCAA WorldSeries!  Congratulations to all the players and coaches!

NJCAA Region XIII baseball tournament is taking place May 16-18, and Century is the #1 overall seed!

Century Softball Player Haley Husom Named NJCAA Player of the Week!

Awesome Haley Husom earned Player of the Week honors for the 2ND time in 2013!

Ms. Husom spurred the Wood Ducks on to two wins in their four games last week. She batted for a .529 average (9-for-17) with two doubles and a triple. The freshman accumulated eight RBIs across the week and scored eight runs of her own. Husom leads the Wood Ducks with a .593 batting average on the year.

Congrats to Century Softball player Haley Husom!

Ms. Husom was named one of the OC Sports/NJCAA Softball Players of the Week: March 25-31!

The Wood Ducks started their 2013 campaign on the right foot, winning their first three games of the season behind Husom’s offensive effort. The freshman had a .700 batting average (7-for-10), cranking three doubles and a triple for a 1.200 slugging percentage. On the week, Husom drove home six runs while scoring six of her own. Early in the season, Husom has already positioned herself as one of Century’s top hitters.

Century's Baseball Team Named #6 Nationwide in NJCAA Poll

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III baseball preseason rankings were released this week, and Century College rated #6 nationwide!
